Baicalein (5,6,7-trihydroxyflavone) is a flavone, originally isolated from the roots of Scutellaria baicalensis and Scutellaria lateriflora. It is also reported in Oroxylum indicum or Indian trumpet flower. It is the aglycone of baicalin. Baicalein inhibited the cell proliferation in a concentration-dependent manner in BFTC905 cells. Higher concentrations of baicalein (60 and 80 μmol/L) almost completely blocked the cell proliferation ability. Baicalein (60–80 μmol/L for 24 h) significantly decreased the G0–G1 phases, but increased the G2–M phases in BFTC905 cells. The administration of baicalein is associated with common side effects, such as fatigue and shortness of breath.
1. Baicalein be used for the treatment of paralysis after cerebrovascular disease;
2. Baicalein can remove oxygen free radicals, but also inhibit the melanin formation;
3. Baicalein will reduce cerebral vascular resistance, improve blood circulation, increase cerebral blood flow and has anti-platelet aggregation effect;
4. Baicalein has antibacterial, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-metamorphosis and antispasmodic effect, and has strong anti-cancer response to physiological performance.
